Ava disaster averted

We hit a milestone this week, no one in our house achieved a brava award. Although it wasn't from lack of effort and I'm sure we will have a winner next week. We did come close to a major disaster, but with a little Bryn help, it was resolved in the nick of time. Let me elaborate: I had left the pantry door open, I do this a lot, I'm trying to be better. I recognize and take full responsibility for what happened next. While I dress Morgan, Bryn came in exclaiming, "Ava's hiding, she got something out of the pantry." This is of immediate concern, so I leave Morgan half dressed and discover Ava hiding behind the girls' couch in their room. She is crouched and clenching a large new bag of powder sugar. She had just begun gnawing a hole in the bag when I seized it from her kung fu grip. I feel this could have been one for the record books, but thanks to Bryn, we...ok, just kidding. While writing this post, Ava managed to get the fish food down, and pour it all over the floor. Then while I cleaned up the fish food, Ava pooped and reach back and grabbed some poop out of her diaper. Can I just say, I love being a mom. It has been a life long goal of mine to clean up poop, puke,...ahh, she has ripped off her clothes and diaper. And now is asking if I am happy. I gotta go. seacrest out.

just disgusting

Yesterday at the grocery store, I was at the deli getting meat for the Easter Festivus. Bryn chose to lick the glass of the deli counter, she got about 3 feet across before I could grab her. Yes, she's almost 4.

this week Ava on a rampage

We went to the park and I left Morgan's formula in the stroller. Ava found it and surprise entry way mess.

this is becoming a big problem. I can't keep my makeup anywhere!

What can I say, the girl loves her oatmeal.

Sticker Time!

It started out with just a few stickers... Zoe was making a card, and then things sort of snowballed. Poor Quinn didn't stand a chance.

Zoe made sure my eyebrows were covered.

Aaron puts up with a lot. Poor guy, estrogen is dripping from the walls.

Oh Quinn... I'm sorry I let this happen. I even helped out. Great Mom, huh? It looked like fun, so I joined in.

She looks like Hannabal from Silence of the Lambs. It's hard to look away. We like to scar our kids while they are young. It builds "character," right? I blame my parents mostly. They were always "building our character."

A Frosted Ham

We woke up this morning to a fun surprise...frost on the inside of our windows. This morning the temperature was -40 (with the wind chill) and poor insilitaion left us with the frosted windows. Aaron put his hand on the window to see how thick the ice was. This, of course, left his hand print. Zoe had crawled into bed with us and we asked her if she wanted to touch the window too. First, she made a print with her hand. Then we had the idea that it would be funny if she pressed her little fanny onto the window. This, of course, would be following in her daddy's footsteps. Aaron pressed many a ham in his hay day. She said that she didn't want to so we changed the subject and started talking about something else. About 5 minutes later she said that she did want to touch her booty to the window. How old are we? We'll just let the pictures tell the rest of the story for us. Enjoy.

Yo-yo anyone?

So we have had some problems with Mia's hearing lately. I even took her to the doctor about it and then he referred her to a specialist for a hearing test...which she failed. Luckily the doctor wasn't too concerned. He said it's just fluid in her ears that isn't draining and, worst-case scenario- she will get tubes put in. Her hearing loss has made for some humorous comments from her, though. Sadly, I can't remember all of them but here's one from this week. The kids were eating lunch and I said "Whoever finishes up can have an oreo". A few minutes later I gave one to Mia. She held it up with a confused look on her face and asked "Is this a yo-yo?". I was glad to see that a yo-yo would have been good motivation. I might need to get one to keep on hand.

P.S. Not related to her hearing loss, she thinks a bra is called a broccoli. I think it's too funny to correct her when she pokes my shirt and asks me if I'm wearing my broccoli or not. We'll probably need to clear that one up eventually but for now I'm enjoying it.

Chocolate Milk

Ben was fooling around in the garage and wouldn't get into the car so we could leave to run errands. Jonathan told him we would leave with out him unless he got into the car right then. Ben just said, "Fine! Then I will go into the fridge and drink all the chocolate milk!"

Pop Tart Fiasco

I was on the phone with Amber and folding laundry, when Ben came in and asked if he could share a pop tart with Emily. I said yes as long as they ate it at the table. Well....a few minutes later Ben came back and said calmly, "There's a fire." Not believing him and still talking with Amber I went into the kitchen ...and there I saw a fire in the toaster that was now reaching our cabinets! I grabbed the baking soda and it went out instantly. Luckily no damage, not even to the toaster. Ben just said, "It wasn't getting dark enough, so I kept pushing it down."

Occurred in the summer 2007
Even now to this day if you ask the kids if they're allowed pop tarts...they say, "No, because of the scary fire."

Sugar Castles

While I was showering (as always), Ben and Emily decided to make sand castles using sugar. When I came out and gasped...Ben said with pride, "Look mom, it's just like a beach."

Occurred May 2007

Ode to Orbitz Gum

Gum has now been banned from our house. We left Zoe alone for 2 minutes, and this is what we found.

I gave up with the ice cube, trying to freeze the gum... and I wasn't about to touch peanut butter. So a little snip, snip...
and whalla!

Luckily you can not tell we cut her hair... this time. Next time, she might not be so lucky.

Right on, Bryn, right on.

A few weeks ago we were sitting in sacrament and a youth speaker said, "I'm glad Jesus died for me." Bryn, who actually heard the speaker, got very upset and yelled (for several rows to hear), "Jesus isn't dead!"

Our toilet has eyes, jealous?

Of course this is Bryn's doing. I actually didn't mind. It gives that nasty toilet seat some character and now I can justify replacing it.

Bryn explained that it is a toilet monster, notice the many eyes.

Zebra

Right before bed...Ben came in to see me and with a big grin on his face said, "do you like it?" I just said "Oh Ben, what did you do!?!"

He looked a little hurt...and simply said..."I'm a Zebra."
And of course he had just had a bath.

Going Fishing

After a very, very long day of disobedient children I had banished Emily and Ben to the downstairs till dinner was ready (About a 2 hour naughty time). When I went downstairs to tell them to come eat....they saw me and went hiding. I found a trail of big swedish fish leading to the playyard, which was apparently the pond that they were fishing from. Their fishing pole was our playground swing that we had brought in for the winter season. They used this because as Ben said so simply, "it's a chain with a hook on the end".

I asked how he got the swing and Daddy's 4 lb bag of swedish fish from costco, (don't we love Jonathan) out of the locked cold storage room. Ben ran and got the key he had hidden for later pillaging and said with full pride, "let me show you mom, it was easy. I just stacked up the tubs and then I swung my blanket up and it knocked down the key. Then I opened it...... But mom, I locked it after I got the fish out."
(I took his picture while he was reenacting his story.)

We now have to get magnetic locks on all our cupboards and hide all our keys.

Chocolate Anyone?

While I was showering....Ben and Emily decided to sneak all the chocolate bars that I use for baking (3 king sized-Symphony bars 1lb. each, 2 ghiradelli bars) downstairs to the window sill in the exercise room and have a little party. There was chocolate everywhere! The sun was starting to melt what they hadn't eaten...and little chocolate hand prints could be seen smeared all over the shutters, walls, and carpet. The picture doesn't do any justice.(My battery was about to quit so I couldn't get everything in the shot.) Knowing that eating 1.5 pounds of chocolate each wasn't a good choice. Ben and Emily decided to barricade the exercise room door with all the toys and toy tubs that we own so that I wouldn't be able to open the door. This was just the beginning of a very bad day.

my kids eat gross things

On Saturday, Bryn, Ava, Morgan and I went to get a cookie at SmartCookie. While enjoying our edibles, Messycat Ava dropped a piece of her cookie onto the floor. It rolled under the table and out of sight...Until we got up to leave. We were having a quick dance party to Jack Johnson when Ava spotted the morsel of deliciousity. She dove under the table and gobbled it up.

Not that nasty? Well then let's move on to Bryn:
The setting is a warmer Sunday afternoon in the church foyer. Bryn excavates a piece of old used gum out of the foyer trash can and pops it in her mouth. Trash cans always contain free candy for Bryn. It is only a matter of time before this child gets a disease. She's almost 4, when will she grow out of this? She has no sense of "I probably shouldn't do that."

what happens on aaron's watch

Just a reminder of what happened while I took a nap with Morgan. Seriously, we expect this from Bryn, but Lauren! Honestly, what was she thinking?

And that's why you should always leave a note.

where Ava lives

This is where Ava lives if I leave the laundry room door open. I've closed the dryer door on her, she loves it. Lights off and all. Coo Coo.

Oh yeah, and do you like the femma-mullet?

Date night with Lauren

Aaron took Lauren on a daddy-daughter date last summer (yes they have been on others since, just giving time reference). They were riding in the car and Lauren was pulling her skirt up exposing her underwear. She's five and a nudist whenever possible. So Aaron says, "Lore, put your skirt down. You don't want the whole world to see your underwear."

Lauren grimaced (that's right, I said it: grimaced) and put her skirt down. Much later on during the date, Lauren turned to Aaron and said, "Dad, I'm confused. How can the whole world see me? Where are its eyes?"

MUstard

Here are the pix to back up the mustard story. Not my favorite day...

Size doesn't matter...

Apparently Zoe can wear Quinn's clothes. She looks a little odd, but she loves it.

These are 3-6 months pants.

Shame on Grandma

I caught Grandma in the peanut butter. She couldn't resist putting it all over her hair. Don't try this at home.
